Summary: A concerned citizen opposes the proposed extension of the compliance deadline for PFOA and PFOS maximum contaminant levels. The commenter argues that the health risks are well-established and that there is no reason to delay the provision of clean drinking water to the public.
I am submitting the following comment regarding the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Proposed Extension of the Compliance Deadline for the perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) Maximum Contaminant Levels (EPA-HQ-OW-2025-1742).
I write as a concerned citizen. The scientific evidence that PFOA and PFOS are harmful to health is well established. The financial, environmental, health (physical and emotional) burden borne by individuals, families and communities exposed to PFOA and PFOS contamination is also well documented. I have co-workers who lost their homes due to PFOA contamination. There is no reason to delay the assurance of non-PFOA and PFOS contaminated drinking water to Americans.
