I am writing to express my opposition to rescinding regulations of PFAS forever chemicals as proposed in rule EPA-HQ-OW-2025-0654.
PFAS exposure has been linked to causing elevated cholesterol, pregnancy complications (hypertension and pre-eclampsia), liver injury, decreased birth weight, kidney and testicular cancers, and diminished immune response to some vaccines. Americans in communities that have already experienced exposure to PFAS chemicals have suffered severe economic and health impacts, and without regulation, millions more will be at risk.
The EPA’s move in 2024 to establish science-based drinking water standards for six PFAS chemicals was a necessary step to protecting public health. Removing regulations that enforce protective standards for PFHxS, PFNA, GenX, and PFBS will leave Americans vulnerable to daily exposure to these chemicals and negative health effects.
The mission of the EPA is to protect public health and to ensure that Americans have clean air, land, and water. It is incredibly disappointing that the current EPA leadership has abdicated their responsibility to public health in favor of corporate profits. In the interest of public health, I urge the EPA not to rescind the regulations protecting Americans from PFAS chemicals.
