Summary: The commenter, writing as a concerned citizen, opposes the proposed rescission of regulations for four PFAS substances. They argue that there is sufficient scientific evidence regarding the negative health impacts of these chemicals and urge the EPA to continue recognizing and regulating them.
I am submitting the following comment regarding the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Proposed Rule to Rescind Regulatory Determinations and Regulations for Perfluorohexane sulfonic acid (PFHxS), Perfluorononanoic Acid (PFNA), Hexafluoropropylene oxide dimer acid (HFPO-DA or “GenX”), and the mixture of these three PFAS plus PFBS (EPA-HQ-OW-2025-0654) proposed on May 18, 2026.
I write as a concerned citizen. There is well-established, peer-reviewed, scientific evidence that these four PFAS have negative health impacts on people and the environment. There is enough evidence for the National Academy of Science, Medicine and Engineering to issue guidelines for medical professionals to follow when treating patients with detectable levels of several PFAS in their blood. I have several co-workers whose families would likely have avoided years of health problems and now years of uncertainty about what their PFAS blood levels might bring in the future. There is every reason to spare Americans any more damage caused by these four PFAS. EPA should continue to recognize and regulate PFHxS, PFNA, HFPO-DA (GenX), and the mixture of these three PFAS plus PFBS.
