I am writing to express my strong opposition to the EPA's proposed changes to the National Primary Drinking Water Regulations for PFAS. Nantucket relies entirely on a single-source aquifer, meaning any weakening of these safety standards directly threatens our local drinking water.
Allowing water systems to delay compliance for PFOA and PFOS until 2031 leaves communities exposed to toxic chemicals for far too long. Additionally, rolling back required testing for other dangerous PFAS variants removes critical consumer protections. If the agency rescinds current limits on legal grounds, it must keep ongoing monitoring and public reporting in place until new limits are finalized. Storing these findings in a permanent federal database is essential; halting data collection defeats the administrative integrity the EPA is trying to restore.
