I urge you to withdraw the Proposal to Rescind Regulatory Determinations and Removal of Related Provisions for Four PFAS Substances (PFHxS, PFNA, HFPO-DA (GenX), and the Mixture of These Three PFAS Plus PFBS) as discussed in (EPA-HQ-OW-2025-0654), because it is known to cause multiple serious harms to human health. PFAS are known to: -impair gene expression by methylating DNA -affect every part of the body by binding to albumin as a free fatty acid mimic -have negative effects on metabolism, organ development, and endocrine function -cause reproductive, endocrine, and neurodevelopmental diseases -be associated with infertility, preeclampsia, low infant birth weight, Type 2 diabetes, early-onset puberty, thyroid disease, impaired vaccine response, neurocognitive impairment in children (decreased IQ), and malignancies, including kidney and testicular cancers -be transferred from mothers to their nursing infant the health effects of which and early childhood exposure may not be obvious until years later -disabilities can be life-long Researchers from NYU estimate that the health-related economic costs of PFAS exposure in the US range from $5.5 to $63 billion annually. Given the tremendous familial, societal, and economic costs it is imperative that the proposed rescission be withdrawn and enforce the existing standards, as well as work to address the remaining PFAS that continue to poison drinking water supplies and harm communities across the country instead.
