I am submitting this comment in strong support of maintaining and strengthening enforceable limits on PFAS and other persistent industrial contaminants in drinking water. Safe drinking water is a basic public health requirement, and any rollback or weakening of current standards would place unnecessary risk on communities already affected by long-term environmental exposure. Accountability should remain clearly with the manufacturers of these chemicals and the regulatory agencies responsible for protecting public health. Where contamination has been documented, responsibility for cleanup and mitigation should not be shifted to local utilities or taxpayers. The “polluter pays” principle must be fully upheld, and any regulatory framework should reflect the real, long-term costs of contamination. I urge the agency to prioritize health-protective standards based on independent science, ensure full transparency in decision-making, and resist legal or industry pressure that would dilute protections. Once contaminants are in the water supply, the consequences are long-lasting and often irreversible. Prevention must remain the primary objective. Respectfully submitted.
