The Chemical Company (TCC) writes today to comment on EPA-HQ-OPPT-2018-0459 Risk Assessment as it concerns Phthalic Anhydride, CAS #85-44-9 (PA).
We are a chemical distributor of solid/flake Phthalic Anhydride. We do not manufacture this material. TCC does purchase the product from more than one supplier. A portion of the material we sell may be imported.
At one time the TCC website may have contained erroneous or misleading information concerning whether this material should be considered “toxic”. That language has since been removed from our website.
In summary, TCC acts solely as a distributor and is not involved in the manufacturing or end use of the product. As such, we cannot provide analysis or data related to exposure, residuals, or workplace monitoring. TCC does not use the product in a manner that would allow us to measure or evaluate exposure levels for risk assessment purposes.
PA is a useful product widely used to manufacture resins and plasticizers. We do not believe that this material presents a risk to workers or consumers as it is transformed in production and no longer exists as a discrete material in the end product.
