I am writing to express my opposition to the proposed changes to the Environmental Protection Agency rule entitled “Hazardous and Solid Waste Management System: Disposal of Coal Combustion Residuals From Electric Utilities; Legacy/CCRMU Amendments” (Docket ID No. EPA-HQ-OLEM-2020-0107).
A rule to weaken regulations is breathtakingly irresponsible, virtually condemning residents who live in affected areas to an array of serious diseases and almost certain premature death. There is no such thing as a "safe" level of coal ash, whether or not it is "dry." State by state regulation is irrelevant to coal ash regulations, as neither the ash nor water will be halted by arbitrary borders. There must be Federal protection that will apply equally to every state with a coal ash site.
