Summary: An individual resident of Athens, Ohio, opposes the proposed rule, arguing that it would further endanger the health of neighbors in Appalachia who are disproportionately affected by coal ash sites.
I am writing to express my opposition to the proposed changes to the Environmental Protection Agency rule entitled “Hazardous and Solid Waste Management System: Disposal of Coal Combustion Residuals From Electric Utilities; Legacy/CCRMU Amendments” (Docket ID No. EPA-HQ-OLEM-2020-0107). We live in Athens, Ohio, not far from a coal-burning power plant with a coal ash site. While our groundwater remains unimpacted, we are much concerned about the health of our neighbors, mostly economically and politically disadvantaged, who have for generations been hit the hardest. Clearly, the EPA's proposed rule would further endanger the health of our neighbors here and across Appalachia.
