Summary: The commenter opposes the proposed rescission of the International Education Programs regulations, arguing that the regulations ensure applicants are evaluated on scholarly merits rather than administrative discretion. They express concern that removing these rules will create uncertainty, decrease transparency, and diminish the credibility of U.S. academic programs globally.
I'm writing to voice my opposition to the proposed recission of International Education Programs regulations. The recission of these regulations won't remove administrative burdens or procedural red tape. Rather, they will remove requirements that help ensure applicants are evaluated on scholarly merits, not unmonitored administrative discretion. The uncertainty and inconsistency this creates would be detrimental to scholars and to the wider U.S. scholarly community. Weakening transparency in the process and consistency lowers the credibility of these important programs and diminishes the U.S. role in the global academic community. Please do not rescind the International Education Programs regulations.
