I strongly support the proposed waiver to continue the needed funding for Native Hawaiian Education programs. I'm most familiar with S362A230012 UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII (Ulu A`e Transitions/Growing Pono Schools) and know this to be a highly effective program that directly impacts teachers and students in Hawai'i public schools. This program support all students' social-emotional well-being, literacy and communication skills, engagement in learning, and capacity to improve academic achievement. in addition to providing curriculum and strategic resources that teachers can readily implement. Moreover, the program provides professional development in applying the resources for educators across the state, nationally and internationally. As a former Hawai'i State Teacher, Principal of Hawaiʻiʻs first culturally-driven charter school and Hawaiʻi State community college lecturer, I understand the importance of providing another year of funding to continue this very impactful, needed support for an expanded population of educators and students, which will benefit the whole education system.
