Summary: A passenger is complaining about American Airlines' involuntary downgrade compensation policy following a flight cancellation. The commenter argues that the airline's refund amount was insufficient and that the policy violates DOT regulations.
AA downgraded us from first/business to coach on May 25th on our Hawaii trip after they cancelled our flights. I used my AA miles to pay for these seats that I purchased 9 months earlier. AA's rescheduled coach flight gave us a 6 hour layover in LAX. AA only gave me 10K miles refund per ticket for their downgrades. Absurd! The cost difference between coach and First was double when I booked. Why is AA allowed to unilaterally decide they will only refund you up to 40%? They should have been required to give us free upgrades to first/business from coach on another next long haul flight. "American Airlines” new policy is a direct violation of DOT regulations!
