As an American who travels frequently for work in Asia, I was disappointed that the addition of extra pages was curtailed years ago, but understand in the name of security.. However, the complete removal of the large passport adds an undue cost burden to frequent travelers, forcing passport renewals much more frequently. I reached 38 pages in my current 50-page passport within 2 years.
Sure, change the passport size if you must, but allow free renewals during the 10-year period of validity maintaining the ultimate expiry date across renewals.
