As a 39 year old woman who has lived with autism and disabilities since age 6, I have noticed that people who are diagnosed with hidden disabilities are often treated differently and overlooked when it comes to our needs. April being Autism Awareness Month, people need to accept us and help others like myself to live our lives to the fullest. Right now so many veterans, disabled, autistic, etc, are living either with their parents or on the streets. People see the need but don’t acknowledge it. Florida needs to start coming together as a community to help make lives better and more sustainable. Right now so many people live as “every man/woman for themselves” rather than coming together to lift each other up. I am part of a beautiful nonprofit organization called Autism Everywhere and we are trying to spread acceptance and support throughout Hernando County.
