Summary: A retired law enforcement officer expresses support for FEMA's role in providing essential training and education to first responders. They argue that potential budget cuts could create dangerous gaps in emergency preparedness and public safety.
As retired law enforcement I believe the training we received from FEMA was invaluable. We cannot assume that first responders will be adequately informed in dealing with weather emergencies or other catastrophic events without the support the educational staff at FEMA provides. With all the cuts made by DOGE the gaps in communication and education to first responders may never be filled and deny the public the benefits of such education and support FEMA provided.
