Summary: Yvonne Farrell argues that the proposed action unfairly penalizes low-income seniors who are already retired from the workforce and rely on Social Security and food stamps. She requests that the government rescind the work requirements and roll back the incentives to age 50 to allow for a dignified retirement.
I think CMS and USDA FNS have forgotten that many if not most low-income workers retire in their 50s and early 60s after decades of backbreaking, soul-crushing work. Social Security retirement on which many of us rely for 100% of our retirement money, starts age 62 and many ( I think the figure is 30%) seniors take starting age 62. In many cases there is no other money and never will be other than food stamps.
Ignoring age 62 and p[retending to require seniors over age 50 to "work" or "community service" when in fact they/we are already retired completely and permanently from the low-wage workforce onto Social Security retirement at age 62 does not incentivize work, it just punishes us poor people.
Rescind this and roll back work incentives to age 50 and allow us to retire in dignity and peace that we deserve.
