Summary: The Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) expresses a mixed position, supporting the goal of streamlining patient access to medications while opposing the specific expansion of prior authorization requirements to radiopharmaceuticals. They argue that these time-sensitive drugs require rapid coordination and that new administrative barriers could delay critical treatments and increase healthcare costs.
On behalf of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI), we appreciate the opportunity to provide comments on the proposed rule titled, “Medicare and Medicaid Programs: Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act; Interoperability Standards and Prior Authorization for Drugs for Medicare Advantage Organizations, Medicaid Managed Care Plans, etc.” SNMMI supports the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) efforts to streamline patient access to medications by reducing barriers presented by prior authorization and other utilization management practices.
