Summary: The Alliance of Dedicated Cancer Centers (ADCC) supports the proposed rules to reform prior authorization but urges CMS to include specific protections for oncology patients. They advocate for "gold-carding" for high-performing providers, standardized timelines, clearer definitions for "expeditious" reviews, and stronger accountability measures for payers to ensure timely access to cancer treatment.
Dear CMS Leadership: On behalf of the Alliance of Dedicated Cancer Centers (ADCC), I am writing to comment on the proposed rules regarding Interoperability Standards and Prior Authorization requirements applicable to Medicare Advantage Organizations, Medicaid Managed Care Plans, and related programs. ADCC members are among the nation’s leading academic medical centers devoted exclusively to the care and treatment of cancer patients. As regional, national, and international leaders in oncology research, clinical care, and innovation, our centers are deeply committed to developing and disseminating the most effective and efficient approaches to cancer treatment—from prevention and early detection to the most advanced and cutting-edge therapies. Given the complexity and urgency of cancer care, ADCC has a strong interest in ensuring that interoperability and prior authorization policies support timely patient access to medically necessary treatment, reduce unnecessary administrative burden, and promote high-quality coordinated care for oncology patients. We appreciate CMS’ consideration of our comments. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, Jack Kolosky Executive Director Alliance of Dedicated Cancer Centers
