Summary: The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), a nationwide association of eye physicians and surgeons, supports the proposed rule to extend electronic prior authorization (ePA) requirements to drugs. They argue that the rule will reduce administrative burdens and improve patient access to medications, while also providing specific recommendations to improve accountability, reporting transparency, and step therapy regulations.
The American Academy of Ophthalmology appreciates the opportunity to submit comments on a proposed rule issued by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) aimed at improving and streamlining the electronic exchange of healthcare data related to prior authorization (PA) for drugs.
