I live in Newport News News near the James River. It is so polluted that I could never swim here. The Eastern Shore is a natural sanctuary & economic powerhouse for the maritime industry. I have always gone to the Eastern Shore to breath fresh air and enjoy clean water. I have watched housing expand, old motels get revitalized, and communities begin to flourish again in recent years. This proposed dredging would ruin that. The communities of the Eastern Shore would be extinguished. Not to mention, most of the people relying on the commercial fishery supported the current federal administration. This is a betrayal to the people of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Why is Virginia one of only two states even considering this? Because it is an atrocious idea for our entire economy and ecosystem. The state of Virginia must be stewards of our marine ecosystems. We have one of the largest Bays in the entire world. Why should we destroy all the progress we made to the detriment of the people of Virginia just so one company can profit ?
