Summary: An individual expresses concern regarding the environmental impact of commercial leasing for offshore minerals. They argue that the Chesapeake Bay's ecosystem is already fragile due to pollution and climate change, and they question the ability to predict the negative consequences of the proposed project.
The Chesapeake Bay has been the victim of human pollution, overfishing and climate change. This has caused the decline of so many native populations of fish and shellfish, such as the sturgeon, rockfish, oysters, to name a few. Many of these declines were due to the poor planning and lack of knowledge on our part. How can you predict the impact of this monumental project? Any layperson could tell you this already fragile ecosystem may never recover.
