Summary: Tim Rubald opposes any revisions to BLM Manual 6330 that would weaken protections for wilderness areas. He argues that the proposed changes lack justification and could cause permanent damage to the wilderness character of these lands.
I oppose any change or revision to “BLM 6330: BLM Manual 6330, Management of Wilderness Study Areas” that would weaken protections for wilderness areas, lands with wilderness characteristics, or recommended, proposed, and eligible wilderness areas. These, existing as well as possible future proposed areas, should, in perpetuity, be undamaged and reserved for the appreciation and experience of the American people.
Once we admit roads, motorized use, or logging into these places, the wilderness character is destroyed, and no future Congress can reverse the damage. Our loss is permanent.
The Bureau of Land Management has offered no sound justification for reversing decades of settled protections. The proposed change has no documented basis and runs counter to the clear weight of public opinion.
Please preserve existing standards without change. Keep America’s wild lands wild.
