I am opposed to any and all revisions to BLM 6320: “BLM Manual 6320, Considering Lands with Wilderness Characteristics in Land Use Planning” that will weaken protections for wilderness areas, lands with wilderness characteristics, or recommended, proposed, and eligible wilderness areas. BLM’s mission statement is, “ ...to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.” If you reverse protections, you will no longer be supporting the health, diversity, and productivity of public lands. When roads, motorized vehicles, or logging are admitted into these places, their wilderness character is destroyed. Congress can’t fix it in the future. America’s loss is permanent. The Bureau of Land Management has given no sensible reason for reversing decades of protections. A change on this scale, made without a sound basis and against the clear weight of public objection, is unjustified. I urge you to preserve existing standards. Keep protecting our wild lands as they have been protected.
