I am opposed to all revisions to BLM 6320: “BLM Manual 6320, Considering Lands with Wilderness Characteristics in Land Use Planning” that will weaken protections for wilderness areas, lands with wilderness characteristics, or recommended, proposed, and eligible wilderness areas.
When roads, motorized vehicles, or logging are admitted into these places, their wilderness character is destroyed. Congress can’t fix it in the future. America’s loss is permanent. While I may not ever visit anywhere near all of our wilderness areas, I love knowing they are there if and when I do have the chance to visit.
The Bureau of Land Management has given no sensible reason for reversing decades of protections. A change on this scale, made without a sound basis and against the clear weight of public objection, is unjustified.
I urge you to preserve existing standards. Keep protecting our wild lands as they have been protected.
