I urge you to maintain the current policies and guidance for managing Wilderness Study Areas (WSAs) and Lands with Wilderness Characteristics (LWCs) here in Wyoming. These policies weren't built overnight — they've been developed and refined over many years into an effective framework that successfully balances conservation, recreation, public access, and other land management objectives.
From personal experience, knowing that these wildlands are managed under a consistent, proven set of rules gives me confidence that they'll still be there for future generations. Whether I'm hiking, wildlife watching, or simply appreciating the solitude our public lands provide, the current framework works. It gives agency staff clear direction and the public a reliable understanding of how these places are protected.
I've seen no compelling justification for a major overhaul. Opening this review under the guise of climbing guidance updates feels like an attempt to weaken protections without public scrutiny. Please keep the existing wilderness policies in place. Don't roll back protections for WSAs or LWCs.
