Summary: An individual commenter supports the BLM's consideration of updating Manual 6320 to strengthen the protection of lands with wilderness characteristics. They argue that these lands provide critical habitat and recreation, and should be prioritized for conservation before they are fragmented or altered.
Comment for Manual 6320 – Considering Lands with Wilderness Characteristics I encourage the BLM to strengthen its consideration of lands with wilderness characteristics during land-use planning. Even if these lands are not officially designated as wilderness, they often provide critical wildlife habitat, migration corridors, clean watersheds, and outstanding recreational opportunities. The presence of wilderness characteristics should carry significant weight when evaluating future land management decisions. Protecting these landscapes before they become fragmented or permanently altered is far more effective than attempting restoration afterward. America’s public lands are one of our nation’s greatest assets, and I believe the BLM should place a strong emphasis on conserving undeveloped landscapes wherever possible for the benefit of wildlife, recreation, and future generations.
