While this proposal claims to "reduce unnecessary compliance burdens for operators and streamline the BLM's royalty determinations on lost oil or natural gas," it is clear that compliance requirements were put in place for a reason - to protect natural and shared public land and native land resources. Attempts to shortcut these requirements is the extractive non-renewable energy industry looking for a handout from the American people to gain profit while leaving behind a mess that impacts wildlife and pristine environments. Let's face it. Human caused climate change is real. Fossil fuels are in large part to blame. Clean energy is good policy for Wyoming's economy, people and lands. Yet there are those in government and industry who are beholden to a petro-vision of the energy economy that is self-serving, and damaging to the environment and the air we breathe. Sun energy is cheap and lasts forever. Wyoming has plenty of wind. Petroleum/coal is on its way out, and WY will be better off embracing the future than stuck in the past.
