I support ATF's proposed rule permitting the joint registration of National Firearms Act firearms by spouses. The proposal is a practical and commonsense modernization of the NFA registration process. It reduces unnecessary administrative burdens on law-abiding firearm owners while maintaining the integrity of the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record. Under the current system, many married couples establish NFA trusts solely to allow both spouses to lawfully possess the same firearm. Allowing joint registration achieves the same objective through a simpler and more efficient process without diminishing public safety or ATF's ability to trace registered firearms. The proposed rule should also reduce costs for applicants, streamline ATF processing, and lessen the need for legal entities created solely for administrative convenience. These are worthwhile improvements that benefit both the regulated public and the agency. I appreciate ATF's efforts to modernize the administration of the National Firearms Act while preserving its regulatory objectives, and I encourage the agency to adopt the proposed rule as written.
