Summary: An individual recreational shooter supports the proposed rule to remove factoring criteria for firearms with stabilizing braces. The commenter argues that braces improve marksmanship and self-defense skills, and asserts that the previous 2023 rule was an overreach of ATF authority.
I strongly support this proposed rule and urge ATF to permanently reverse the 2023 stabilizing brace rule. I am an aging recreational shooter. I find that the use of a brace-equipped pistol makes my marksmanship much better than pistol shooting without a braced pistol. It helps me continue to enjoy an activity that is not only pleasant, but one that improves my self-defense skills as well. The statutory definition of "rifle" is plain. ATF exceeded its authority in 2023. I urge ATF to finalize this reversal with language durable enough to prevent future administrations from repeating this abuse.
