Summary: A firearms dealer opposes the proposed rule allowing direct shipping of guns, arguing it will harm small local shops and increase the risk of straw purchases. The commenter expresses concern over the lack of oversight in web checks and the new costs imposed on buyers.
The new rules in ATF-2026-0266 to allow direct shipping of guns will kill local shops. As a dealer, I know that seeing a person face-to-face is the only way to catch a straw purchase. This plan forces customers to pay a seven-dollar fee for a web check that lacks real oversight. ATF admits they cannot track these vendors, and they are creating a new cost for buyers while hurting small businesses. Unlike the NFA process where the government must say yes, this rule just waits for a clock to run out. Please remove the parts of this rule that let standard guns ship to a door.
