Summary: A firearms dealer opposes the proposed rule, arguing that it will harm local gun shops and fails to prevent straw purchases as effectively as in-person transactions. The commenter requests that the direct-shipping requirements for standard guns be removed from the rule.
This rule will kill local gun shops in Ohio. As a dealer, I know that local shops stop straw purchases in ways a video call never will. The current rules for shipping NFA items work because the government must say yes after checking prints and photos. This new plan for standard guns is different. It relies on a video ID check and a notice to the police that requires no real approval. If the police chief does not object within seven days, the gun ships. This ignores the value of local shops and forces buyers to pay extra fees. Please strike the direct-shipping parts for standard guns from this rule.
