Summary: The commenter opposes the proposed rule, arguing that allowing direct shipping of firearms will harm small local gun shops and undermine the effectiveness of in-person sales. They express concern that video calls and software cannot adequately verify a buyer's age or intent compared to face-to-face interactions.
This rule will kill local gun shops. When big online stores can ship guns right to a buyer's door, small shops lose the walk-in sales they need to survive. A video call cannot replace an in-person look at a buyer. I have seen teens try to buy guns who look much older, and a computer screen will not stop that. This process relies on software instead of a person who knows the community and can stop a bad sale. The current in-person system works and is not a burden. Please remove the parts of this rule that allow direct shipping of firearms.
