Summary: A mental health counselor opposes the rule, arguing that more guns lead to more gun violence and subsequent emotional trauma for victims and their families. The commenter requests that the rule not be finalized, stating that the ATF should focus on making communities safer.
I am a mental health counselor who had clients affected by gun violence or the threat of gun violence. It is one of the lesser seen scarring effects – the news shows people being shot, yet it rarely shows the deep, never fully healed emotional scars of losing someone to gun violence or being shot and surviving. Being shot is 100% preventable, if there are no guns. More guns mean more deaths which means more trauma for me and my colleagues to attempt to heal with no support from ATF or the federal government. For this reason, I oppose the entire rule and ask it not be finalized. ATF should be working to make us safer, but this rule would endanger our communities.
