Summary: The commenter opposes the proposed rules allowing direct shipping of standard firearms to homes, arguing that the current in-person system is safer and more effective. They express concern that the new rules will harm local gun shops and impose unnecessary fees on families.
The current in-person system for buying guns works, so why change it? Please remove the new rules allowing direct shipping of standard guns to homes. These changes will kill local shops that provide vital face-to-face safety advice and help spot fake buyers. Instead of a shop owner checking a person, this rule forces buyers to pay a seven-dollar fee for identity checks, as noted on page 25224 of the rule. ATF admits it does not know how these service companies will work, yet expects families to foot the bill. Unlike NFA items where the government must say yes, this plan relies on a notice that needs no real approval. Please strike these shipping rules.
