Summary: The commenter opposes the proposed rule allowing direct-to-door shipping of standard firearms, arguing that it will harm local gun shops and lack sufficient oversight compared to current systems. They request that the provisions for direct-shipping GCA firearms be struck to protect local jobs.
The current in-person system for gun sales works well, so why change it? The proposed plan to allow direct-to-door shipping of standard firearms will kill local shops. These small businesses rely on foot traffic that online giants will now steal. Unlike current NFA transfers that require fingerprints and affirmative government approval, this new process lacks real oversight. A video call and a notice to the police chief do not replace the judgment of a dealer who knows the community. Passing the cost of a seven-dollar fee to buyers just adds insult to injury. Please strike the provisions for direct-shipping GCA firearms from this rule to protect local jobs.
