I support this proposed rule change because the current import restrictions have artificially driven up the cost of AK-pattern rifles, parts kits, and surplus ammunition for ordinary Americans for decades. As somebody who has watched the AK market over the years, it’s obvious that outdated import restrictions, sanctions, and constantly shifting ATF policies dramatically reduced the supply of affordable Combloc firearms and ammunition that used to be common in the United States. What were once affordable working-class rifles are now often priced far beyond what many average gun owners can reasonably afford. Allowing lawful imports from countries that are no longer considered prohibited could help increase competition and restore access to affordable rifles, replacement parts, magazines, and surplus ammunition for collectors, recreational shooters, builders, and Second Amendment supporters across the country. I encourage ATF to finalize this rule change and continue removing unnecessary restrictions that burden lawful commerce without providing meaningful public safety benefits.
