I am a responsible gun owner writing to support the ATF’s proposed rule to rescind the requirement for Federal Firearms Licensees (FFLs) to post signs and provide written notices about the Youth Handgun Safety Act (RIN 1140-AA87). This 1994 law has been in effect for over 30 years, and its core provisions are now widely known and easily accessible.
While the original intent of the notice requirement was valid, it has become an unnecessary administrative burden on FFLs without providing a meaningful increase in public safety. Law-abiding gun owners are already aware of their legal responsibilities regarding secure storage and juvenile access prevention.
I support this common-sense regulatory reform, which reduces paperwork and compliance costs for gun dealers while maintaining public safety. I urge the ATF to finalize this rule as proposed.
