Summary: Phillip Hagel, a private gun owner, supports the proposed rule to allow the conversion of temporary imports to permanent status for defense articles. He argues that the rule streamlines the process for importers, eliminating costly and unnecessary logistical burdens while maintaining regulatory oversight.
I am a responsible gun owner and supporter of lawful firearms commerce, writing to support the proposed rule to allow the conversion of temporary imports to permanent status (RIN 1140-AA68). This rule creates a sensible, administrative pathway for importers to convert qualifying defense articles already in the U.S. under temporary authorization to permanent import status by submitting ATF Form 6. This change eliminates an outdated and costly regulatory gap that forces importers to either export and re-import items or destroy them, even when a lawful permanent import was always possible. By streamlining the process, the ATF reduces unnecessary financial and logistical burdens on the industry while maintaining full regulatory oversight and compliance with federal law. I urge the ATF to finalize this rule as proposed. Sincerely, Phillip L Hagel Goodyear AZ
