This is absolutely a step in the right direction. It has always been absurd that an otherwise law abiding firearm owner can become a felon just by crossing a state line with a firearm that is legal to posses in both states in question, unless they gat prior authorization from the government. It is especially ridiculous considering it is fully legal for someone to transport an NFA firearm several hours away to the far side of their home state butwithout any paperwork required, but if the got 30 minutes the other way and cross a state line they must submit a formal request to the federal government, in advance, and receive approval to move freely with their own property. Furthermore there is no evidence that I am aware of that the current system has any impact on crime, public safety or anything besides incarcerating normal firearm owners just trying to navigate the overly complicated and bloated bureaucracy that's been forced upon us since 1934.
