I agree with the proposal to remove the CLEO notification. Removing redundancy helps workflow and efficiency. It also alleviates the potential for local bias. As mentioned in the proposal, removing the CLEO notification DOES NOT circumvent or remove a safety barrier.
If for some reason you were to have issues with your local policing agency, but no charges that would prevent you from having a NFA item have been filed, anything that would prevent you from having a NFA item would come up in your background check done by the ATF. Therefore, removing CLEO notification would remove local bias, and redundancies, without making the NFA process less affective at preventing prohibited persons from obtaining a NFA item through legal means.
