Summary: The commenter supports the proposed rule as a way to reduce the financial and logistical barriers to owning short-barreled rifles and shotguns. They argue that the change will improve the quality of life for gun owners by reducing costs, simplifying the manufacturing process, and increasing personal safety by removing identifying information from receivers.
This a great step forward for law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms. The barrier of entry into more wieldable firearms with shorter barrels (rifle or shotgun) and the added stability with vertical foregrips is too steep for me financially. The reduction of the $200 tax stamp is a welcome commencement to the list of proposed rules now being taken by ATF to improve the gunowner's quality of life without fear of federal penalties or arbitrary rules enforced as law - no matter the administration.
Not having to find a gunsmith, pay a service/engraving fee, and lowering the resale value of now a federally-regulated firearm which already is hard to sell being an SBR/SBS. Furthermore, having my personal information (given name or gun trust) with my city on the respective receiver(s) prominently displayed for prying eyes gives me greater vulnerability when at a range let alone if I were anywhere for training and clearly delineates me as a civilian than privileged government-sanctioned servant or employee who doesn't have the right to possess one converted from a pistol to a rifle or firearm to a shotgun.
Rather than months, I hope this will take effect sooner for both myself and the thousands of others who want to imbibe in the same functionality as federal, military, and police entities. Still looking forward to the total evisceration of the NFA but appreciative of Robert Cekada's current efforts to piecemeal what he can from his office while serving.
