Summary: A private gun owner supports the proposed rule to clarify delivery to common or contract carriers when transporting firearms. The commenter argues that clear regulations are necessary to protect law-abiding citizens from potential legal issues or seizures by local authorities in specific jurisdictions.
I write in support of this proposed rule. The current ambiguity in carrier transport regulations has created real uncertainty for me as a law-abiding gun owner. I refuse to fly commercially with my firearms "legally" checked for fear I could be emergency routed into an airport known to be unfriendly to law abiding gun owners such as O'hare or Newark, Kennedy, etc. where my firearms could be illegally obtained by local authorities. These airports are located in states that I avoid at all costs when scheduling air transportation with firearms. Clear rules protect law-abiding citizens. I urge ATF to finalize this proposal.
