I am commenting because I don't think the proposed rule goes far enough to reduce the time for proposed record keeping.
A while ago I and a few others commented on the previous rule. The question we asked was how many shootings were solved by a gun trace. As in a gun trace was the Single Point of Failure to make in an arrest of a suspect in a shooting. I am not speaking of a paperwork error or stolen gun crime. I'm speaking of an actual violent event with using a gun in that crime.
In the previous rule, the question wasn't answered. It gave some boiler-plate "gun traces are invaluable to law enforcement" comment that avoided a proper answer.
To summarize, how many arrests (or what is the percentage) of violent crimes are solely the result of a gun trace?
