I believe dealers should have to hold the transfer records for 20 years because that is the minimum option being proposed. These records require physical space that must be supplied at the cost of the dealer. Twenty years worth of records requires the dealer to purchase or lease which is a financial burden to the dealer. I understand the reasoning for holding the records so that firearms can be traced, but I believe that burden should be carried by the ATF since it the government made that ruling. I think the dealer should have the option of shipping the records to the ATF once a year. The second amendment states "shall not be infringed". Making the dealers keep the records is a large burden that comes with a cost and that cost is passed to the end user.
