Summary: An individual is opposing the proposed requirement for applicants to list their "biological sex at birth" on ATF Form 4473. They argue that the requirement is an unconstitutional infringement on Second Amendment rights and is irrelevant to firearm eligibility.
I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed changes to ATF Form 4473, specifically the requirement for applicants to list their "biological sex at birth." This proposed rule represents a significant and unconstitutional infringement on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens.
The right to keep and bear arms is a fundamental right guaranteed to all American citizens. No law-abiding citizen should be forced to disclose sensitive, private medical or personal history. This requirement is irrelevant for the eligibility to own a firearm and to complete a background check.
I urge the ATF to withdraw this proposal and maintain the current standard, which allows for identification that matches the applicant’s valid, government-issued ID.
