I am writing to oppose this proposed rule. This could potentially be one of the most sweeping federal gun deregulation pushes in years. Specifically, this proposed change would include loosening restrictions on gun ownership for people with a history of mental illness, and opening the gun show loophole. Besides threatening public safety, these proposed changes stand to enrich the Trump family. Specifically, the proposals to eliminate in-person background check requirements and rescind the ban on mailing handguns would directly benefit the online retailer GrabAGun. Donald Trump Jr. is a paid consultant for this company, and also owns 300,000 shares of this company. Not only does this proposed change directly imperil public safety in a country that already has significantly more mass shootings than any other country in the world (See Rockefeller Institute of Government-SUNY, among other sources), but it also is a blatantly corrupt decision that would further enrich the Trump family.
