I am opposed to the proposed rule allowing Federal Firearms Licensees (FFLs) to ship firearms directly to consumers' homes.
As the owner of a licensed firearms dealership, indoor shooting range, and training center with decades of experience in the firearms industry, I believe this proposal would benefit large online retailers while harming the thousands of small, independent FFLs that serve as the backbone of the firearms industry. In-store firearm transfers generate customer traffic that supports sales of ammunition, accessories, training, and other services that many local dealers rely on to remain financially viable.
The current transfer system is already convenient, effective, and provides valuable face-to-face interaction that promotes responsible firearm ownership while supporting local businesses. Direct home shipment offers little public benefit, creates additional compliance concerns, shifts business away from local dealers, and will further accelerate consolidation within the firearms industry.
I respectfully urge ATF to withdraw this proposal and preserve the current transfer process.
