Summary: A firearms dealer supports the ATF's efforts to simplify and streamline the Firearms Transaction Record form. The commenter provides specific feedback on layout improvements, such as moving firearm information to the first page and using solid boxes for better legibility.
I appreciate the ATF trying to simplify the form, procedure, and reduce the number of pages. As a dealer who just closed on our ATF inspection today, us and our ATF Inspectors agree with some real world concerns: NEEDS IMPROVEMENT: 1.) Not having firearm information on the first page. When flipping through a stack of paper forms this would be HORRENDOUS if looking for a specific item. 2.) Keeping solid boxes instead of lines for the customer to write in would help with keeping a clean and legible form as well as the overall flow and aesthetic. It currently feels unorganized and confusing. 3.) #6 and #11 should be consecutive instead of separated. 4.) Why is there a need for certification twice (#4 and #8)? 5.) Addition of check box at top of 1st page if the transaction was ever part of an ATF Trace Request. (Requested by my ATF Agent) THINGS WE LOVE: 1.) Attached documentation (which we always do) doesn't have to be filled out, reducing redundancy and room for human error. 2.) Attempting to get all customer info and signature onto 1 page, but less of a priority. 3.) Initialing instead of checking eligibility questions 4.) The flow of questioning for #3 5.) The addition of #12 (We currently attach this info anyway)
