Storing individuals information for auto-filling out 4473 forms digitally will eventually lead to a data breach. I provide my social security number to speed up the NICS process. Would be best to not store this information. Who will be responsible for maintaining this database of information? Who will be responsible when the data is abused or lost, the ATF? What guarantees to gun owners have of this information not being compiled into a single list of gun owners?
Document retention should remain the same. Documents older than 20 years can be scanned and stored digitally, allow how older documents are digitized and stored to be determined by FFL. The 4473 is often the only record that may keep someone out of jail if the used gun they purchased turns out to have been stolen or is flagged in some way.
If we are concerned about birth sex now, should I be entering my birth weight and height also on form 4473? Seems like the information entered should match whatever document is used to identify the recipient of the firearm transfer. So unless you plan on FFLs inspecting genitals, it all seems rather silly and it's just entrapment.
